NorthEast Medical Center [Concord, NC] will announce Friday that its new childrens hospital will be named after Jeff Gordon. The Jeff Gordon Foundation will make a significant contribution to the medical center. The childrens hospital will come at a cost of $9.4 million, $5.9 million of which will be raised by the NEMC Foundation in the next three years. Details on Gordons contribution will be announced Friday at a news conference. According to a release sent out Wednesday afternoon, NorthEast Medical Center and The Jeff Gordon Foundation will announce a significant financial gift directed toward a project focusing on childrens causes. The announcement will be made at 1:00pm/et on Friday to the media at Hendrick Motorsports in Harrisburg, NC. Gordon, a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, established the Jeff Gordon Foundation in 1999 to provide support for charitable organizations that help children overcome serious illnesses. Instead of a free-standing structure, the childrens hospital will be part of two new floors currently being added to the Clinical Services building. The pediatric ward, pediatric intensive care unit and Child Advocacy Center that are already part of the hospital will be located in the new childrens hospital. The 26,800-square foot childrens hospital will include 14 patient rooms, support spaces and an outpatient treatment clinic, in addition to the five-bed PICU and the Child Advocacy Center.(Independent Tribune)(5-27-2005)
