Tragic News:

A race car driver died of an apparent heart attack during a preliminary heat at a small-town track, the track’s owner said. The car driven by Lyle Sherwood, 43, of Ulysses, Pa., veered off Woodhull Raceway on the backstretch Saturday night and came to rest on the infield. He was rushed to a hospital in nearby Corning, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Track owner Scott Drake said no other cars were caught up in the crash during an annual Firefighter Appreciation Night attended by more than 400 firefighters.(USA Today/AP)(6-7-2005)
