#21-Kevin Harvick won the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway for his 4th win of 2005 and 17th career wn. Harvick now has 13 top 10’s, including 12 top fives, in 19 races this season. He has finished in the top five in four of the last five races that he has competed in. #66-Greg Biffle, #60-Carl Edwards, #41-Reed Sorenson and #57-Kyle Busch rounded out the top five. Points leader #8-Martin Truex Jr. finished 11th, while 2nd in points, #2-Clint Bowyer, who started last in a backup, finished 7th, picking up a few points and now is behind Truex Jr. by 84 points with two races to go.
#39-Ryan Newman started on the pole and dominated the first half of the race, however, he failed to pit on lap 106 under caution as the other 17 cars on the lead lap picked up fuel and fresh tires. Newman led the most laps of the race became the series lap leader for the season even though he has only competed in eight events.
Harvick was consoled in victory lane by his wife DeLana and car owner Richard Childress. The Harvicks are in the process of grieving over the loss of DeLanas father, former Busch Series driver John Linville, who lost his years-long battle with cancer earlier this week. Linville was a veteran of 136 NASCAR Busch Series starts. There were 7 caution flags for 26 laps and 9 lead changed among 5 drivers.
