MB2 Motorsports is scheduled to announce their sponsor at Homestead for Sterling Marlin, who will drive the #14 Chevy for the team in 2006. Hearing the sponsor will be Waste Management, who has sponsored Matt Kenseth in some 2005 Busch Series races and Bill Lester in a few Truck Series series.
UPDATE: …Waste Management, a Houston-based company that specializes in environment-friendly waste disposal, will be introduced this morning as one of Marlin’s new sponsors. Waste Management will be aboard for the season-opening Daytona 500 and approximately one-third of the season. Two other corporate sponsors will be announced later. Marlin also said he won’t be able to drive a partial Busch Series schedule for FitzBradshaw Motorsports next year as he had planned. “FitzBradshaw fields Dodges in the Busch Series and since I’ll be driving a Chevy in the Cup Series I won’t be able to run the Busch car,” he said. The development also squelched the plans of Marlin’s son, Steadman, to share the Busch ride. Marlin said his son is exploring some options “and hopefully something will turn up.”(Tennessean)(11-19-2005)
UPDATE 2: Waste Management and MB2 Motorsports announced the companies have formed a racing platform that will commence with the 2006 NASCAR season. The agreement calls for Waste Management to be a primary sponsor for 12 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races and a major associate sponsor for 24 other points races on MB2’s #14 Chevrolet, which will be driven by Sterling Marlin. Waste Management’s first primary sponsorship race will be the season-opening Daytona 500, Feb. 19. Waste Management is also an associate sponsor on MB2’s #01 U.S. Army Chevrolet, driven by Joe Nemechek. Jay Frye, MB2’s chief executive officer and general manager is continuing to work out details with additional partners to join Waste Management as a primary/associate sponsor with the #14 team. Along with the MB2 partnership, Waste Management will continue as an Official Sponsor of NASCAR. The Company will work with NASCAR on its diversity initiative to make the sport “on and off the racetrack” look more like America.
