Tim Sauter hospitalized after hard crash: UPDATE:

Tim Sauter was admitted to a local hospital after being involved in a grinding crash late in the Food City 250 at Bristol. According to a NASCAR spokesperson, Sauter will be held overnight for observation. The sanctioning body expects an update on Sauter’s condition Saturday morning. On lap 209 of 250, Sauter was involved in a multi-car crash off Turn 2. Aric Almirola spun, but NASCAR didn’t throw the caution. Several cars slowed, but Burney Lamar didn’t and also spun. Sauter spun his car to avoid Lamar’s, but Shane Huffman got in the back of Jamie McMurray’s car and sent both slamming into the near-prone car of Sauter. The driver side Sauter’s #36 McGill Motorsports Chevy hit the SAFER barrier against the inside wall, and emergency workers took several minutes to pull Sauter from his car. NASCAR displayed the red flag, and after Sauter emerged from the car, he walked gingerly to an awaiting stretcher. After a short trip to the infield care center, Sauter was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center. The extent of his injuries are unknown.(SceneDaily.com)(8-26-2006)
