Not only is everything bigger in Texas, it’s faster too! Brian Vickers shattered the track record today and captured the Bud Pole at Texas Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Dickies 500 with a time of 27.518 sec (196.235 mph). It’s his first pole of the season (his last came at Loudon in July of 2005) and 4th of his NEXTEL Cup career and gives him entry into next February’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona…..meaning we’ll have our first Toyota sighting of 2007. We’ve got 15 qualifiers (plus former Shootout winners) with only two more chances left. The top four qualifiers all broke the old qualifying mark set by Bill Elliott in April of 2002.
Elliott Sadler (2nd) has his best starting spot since he had the outside pole at Michigan in August.
Robby Gordon (9th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 9th at Loudon in September….but after last week’s post-race TV interview he may wanna consider a career in politics!
Bobby Labonte (13th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 3rd at Bristol in August.
STREAKIN….Jimmie Johnson has 6 Top-10 starts in a row.(Stock Car Fans)(11-3-2006)
