The King to receive NCMA Award:

The North Carolina Motorsports Association (NCMA) will host its second annual awards banquet on January 31, 2008, when it will present Richard Petty with the Achievement in Motorsports Tribute Award for his lifetime accomplishments in motorsports and contributions to the state of North Carolina. King Richard’s seven NASCAR Cup Series championships, seven Daytona 500 victories and 200 career wins make Petty, statistically, the top driver in NASCAR history. However, what he has accomplished for the sport and the state of North Carolina off the track are equally notable. Born in Level Cross, N.C., where he still lives and works and where he has raised a family, Petty has truly made a difference as a leader in his community, and his service to others is unrivaled in many ways. The NCMA will also honor the outstanding achievement of individuals and organizations that have a significant impact on the North Carolina motorsports industry. Companies are nominated for 10 awards in seven distinct categories including education, diversity, marketing, economic development, safety innovations, event facilities and manufacturers & suppliers. Award nominations begin September 15, and nominees will be evaluated by the NCMA Awards Nomination Committee. The three finalists chosen for each award by the Nominations Committee will be announced at the Association’s annual luncheon on November 5. More info at motorsportsnc.org(NCMA PR)(9-15-2007)
