Kyle Busch’s #5 over-the-wall crew earned its third Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru Challenge win of the season by taking top honors in Sunday’s Nextel Cup event at Martinsville Speedway. The win moved the #5 crew into a tie for second-place in the season-long standings. With only four races remaining on the Nextel Cup circuit, the Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru Challenge honors remain up for grabs. Mark Martin’s #01 crew and Jeff Gordon’s #24 crew are currently tied for the lead in the season-long competition with four wins each, while the crews of Busch, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have collected three wins. Checkers/Rally’s will present Busch’s crew with an $11,000 check for winning the weekly competition. An additional $111,150 prize will be awarded to the over-the-wall team with the most wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule. The #5 over-the-wall crew, out of the Hendrick Motorsports stable, includes: Rick Pigeon (jackman), Jeremy “JD” Holcomb (front-tire carrier), DJ Richardson (front-tire changer), Jason Jones (rear-tire carrier), Josh Kirk (rear-tire changer), Brad Pickens (gasman), Jason Dalrymple (catch can), and Kevin Hulstein (eighth-man). The team’s pit crew coach is Mark Mauldin To win, teams are required to finish on the lead lap while spending the least amount of time on pit road. Checkers/Rally’s is in its third season as title sponsor for the Pit Crew Challenge. To date, Checkers/Rally’s has paid out $352,000 to Nextel Cup pit crews.
