Though there were 27 lead changes registered at the start/finish line during Sunday’s Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, a total of 55 Green Flag Passes for the Lead took place around the track. The 55 passes for the lead is the highest number at Texas Motor Speedway since the inception of Loop Data in 2005. NASCAR began using scoring loops embedded in the track for statistical purposes in 2005. Since 2005, the previous high for Green Flag Passes for the Lead at Texas Motor Speedway was 33 on April 9, 2006. A prime contributor to that number: The side-by-side duel between Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth in the closing laps of the 334-lap race. The two swapped the lead twice on laps 328 and 329, swapped it three times on lap 332 and twice again on 333. Additionally, there were 2,865 Green Flag Passes during Sunday’s race.
