Carl Edwards toured the Phoenix International Raceway in 27.114 seconds today (132.773 mph) and took his first Bud Pole of the season in the process. This is the third top-spot of Edwards’ career (and first since Homestead in November of 2005) and he becomes the 18th different pole winner on the season. Martin Truex Jr will start alongside on Sunday. J. J. Yeley (4th) has his best starting spot since he had the pole at Michigan in June. Johnny Sauter (5th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 4th at New Hampshire in July. Tony Raines (8th) has his best starting spot since he timed in 4th at Rockingham (new home for ARCA next May) in November of 2003! Jeff Burton (12th) had his best starting spot since he qualified 11th at Richmond in September. Patrick Carpentier (24th) has his career-best starting spot this weekend. In his only other previous Nextel Cup start he lined up 40th at Watkins Glen in August. Sam Hornish Jr (26th) makes his first ever Cup start this weekend. Welcome Back Sterling Marlin (29th).
