In the eight races run, all eight winners have come from the top 10 starting spot: California, February: winner #99-Edwards started 9th, #48-Johnson started 1st finished 2nd Bristol, March: #31-Burton 8th, #48-Johnson 18th Michigan, June: #88-Earnhardt Jr. 3rd; #18-Busch 13th Chicago, July: #18-Busch 1st Watkins Glen: August, #18-Busch 1st Richmond, September: #48-Johnson 3rd; #18-Busch 15th New Hampshire, September: winner #16-Biffle 9th, #18-Busch 34th Charlotte, October: winner #31-Burton 4th, #48-Johnson 6th Martinsville, October: winner ? #48-Johnson starts 1st The NINE qualifying sessions cancelled are a record. From 1980 thru present, the next worse year for qualifying cancellations was in 2002 when five were cancelled. Back a few years ago, if it rained on Friday, qualifying was many times moved to Saturday morning, that doesn’t happen any longer.(10-17-2008)
