ABC’s live coverage of the Dickies 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway earned a final national rating of 3.7, the same as last year’s race that also aired live on ABC. The telecast averaged 5,889,504 viewers. Through eight races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, ABC’s ratings are basically even with last year, averaging a 3.7. Ratings for the males ages 35-54 demographic have seen an increase of four percent. ESPN2’s live coverage of the Nationwide Series race at Texas earned a 1.2 household coverage rating, down from the 1.3 for last year’s race that also aired live on ESPN2. The telecast averaged 1,565,530 viewers. For the season, ESPN2’s ratings for the Nationwide Series are averaging a 1.5 and are up 7% from last year.
