Sept. 13 — 1970: Richard Petty leads 488 of 500 laps to win the Capital City 500 at Richmond (Va.) Fairgrounds Raceway by two laps on Bobby Allison. It starts a streak of seven consecutive wins at Richmond for the King on the .542-mile track. From September 1970 through February 1975, Petty wins nine of the 10 Cup races at the track.(NASCAR.com)
