Auto Club Goodyear Tire Notes:

  • Goodyear has brought two brand new tire codes for NASCAR Sprint Cup teams to run at California this weekend . . . this tire set-up came out of a tire test Goodyear held at the track this past December . . . teams/drivers participating in that test were #9-Kasey Kahne, #12-Brad Keselowski, #20-Joey Logano and #31-Jeff Burton . . . Goodyear decided to test California to evaluate its tires in an effort to give cars more grip around the two-mile oval . . . Goodyear engineers ultimately decided to incorporate some of the compound technology developed during the Indianapolis program last year, coming back with a different right-side compound . . . that change was merged with some of the speedway construction elements that Goodyear has rolled into many of it tires over the past year . . . while Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams will run the same right-side tire code (D-4386) this weekend, they will be running distinct left-side codes . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at California . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire. The estimated pit window is every 42-44 laps, based on fuel mileage (Goodyear). See tire pressures, codes and more on my Auto Club Race Info page.(2-18-2010)
