It was Kyle Busch’s best day in racing — five wins from six starts in the #18 M&M’s machine. Well, make that the M&M’s electric go-kart at Craig’s Cruisers indoor kart track Tuesday in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming. Busch took on race fans, sponsors and media members in a series of eight-lap sprints at Craig’s during a visit to promote the upcoming Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Michigan International Speedway on June 13 in Brooklyn, MI. The kart racing was as tough as any at Bristol, Martinsville or Richmond, where Busch, who is third in Cup points, won May 1. Starting from the back, Busch drove his way through wrecks, spinning karts and yellow flags. “I haven’t won more than one race in a day,” Busch said later, laughing. “It was neat to help MIS sell tickets to the June race and run against the fans. It was a good day at the wheel. There’s nothing like coming from the back to win one.” Busch and MIS president Roger Curtis banged bumpers most of the day, with Curtis appearing to have Busch’s measure in the first eight-lapper before hitting the barrier — or the brakes — within sight of the checkered flag. “Don’t know what happened to Roger’s kart,” Busch said. “I think he stalled it on the final turn.” About 500 people — locals and some from as far away as Ohio and Ontario — turned out to watch and/or compete against Busch, including four friends from Dexter who drive and crew on a super late model team at tracks such as Berlin Raceway in Marne and Toledo Speedway.(Detroit Free Press)(5-12-2010)
