Carl Edwards earned his 26th Nationwide Series win in his 191st start by taking the checkered flag in the inaugural series race at Road America. He led 35 of the 50 laps raced. It was his first win of 2010, with his previous win at Phoenix last November.
Edwards’ first win of the season in the past three years (2008, 2009, 2010) was in the state of Wisconsin. This was his fifth Nationwide Series win from the pole and his second series road course victory in his 13th start. He has now won the past two Nationwide Series road course races after winning at Montreal last season.
The most consecutive Nationwide Series road course victories is three by Terry Labonte between 1994 and 1996 at Watkins Glen.
Edwards led more laps Saturday than he had in his previous 12 series road course starts combined.
Edwards’ victory was the 109th series win for Roush Fenway Racing. This was RFR’s first win of 2010 in any national touring series. It was the 172nd series victory for Ford, but also the first of 2010 in any national touring series.
Ron Fellows (finished second) has finished in the top five in eight of his 16 Nationwide Series starts, all on road courses.
Brendan Gaughan (third) had his best finish of the 2010 season.
Brad Keselowski (fourth) has finished in the top 10 in the past 14 races — this was his best series road course finish in seven starts. Keselowski has a 237 point lead over Edwards in the standings.
Owen Kelly (fifth) made his series debut.
JR Fitzpatrick (seventh) rebounded from a spin on Lap 21 to get his career-best finish.
Colin Braun (11th) was the best-finishing Rookie of the Year contender.
Jacques Villeneuve (25th) was second with two laps to go before experiencing an engine problem.(ESPN.com)(6-21-2010)
