Some Chassis selections for Michigan:

  • #1-Jamie McMurray: The #1 Philips Norelco Bodygroom Pro team will bring chassis #1006 to Michigan this weekend. This chassis has been used twice this season at Darlington and Chicagoland. Both events saw McMurray capture the pole and finish in the top-five placing second and fifth. McMurray has led 143 laps with this chassis.
#2-Kurt Busch: crew chief Steve Addington and the “Blue Deuce” crew are racing their “PRS-734” Miller Lite “Vortex” Dodge in this weekend’s action at Michigan. “This is a brand new Miller Lite Dodge Charger that we’re bringing to Michigan,” Addington said. “We still have the ‘725,’ the car we raced there in June, in our rotation and will likely race it again at Atlanta or another track on down the line. We finished third there in June and are determined to be there up front again this weekend.”
#5-Mark Martin: Gustafson has chosen Chassis #5-550 for Sunday’s race at Michigan. This is the same chassis that Martin drove to a seventh-place finish at Pocono two weeks ago. In July, Martin raced this car to an 11th-place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
#6-David Ragan: Primary: RK-640; Last ran Michigan – finished 34th. Backup: RK-620; Last ran Vegas – finished 23rd.
#12-Brad Keselowski: The #12 Penske Dodge team will use chassis PRS-726 during Sunday’s Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway. This chassis last competed at the first race at Pocono in June.
#14-Tony Stewart: Chassis No. 14-564: This car debuted at Texas last November, where it delivered a strong performance by qualifying fourth and finishing sixth. The 2009 season finale at Homestead-Miami marked the cars second career start. There, it qualified fifth and led twice for 43 laps before two separate on-track incidents with Juan Pablo Montoya relegated it to a 22nd-place finish. It saw action during the off-season when it was used for a Goodyear tire test at Texas Jan. 19-20. Chassis No. 14-564 returned to competition in February at Auto Club Speedway, where in the second race of the 2010 campaign, it started 16th and finished ninth. It returned to Texas in April for its fourth career start, where it qualified on the pole and led five times for 74 laps before a late-race accident relegated it to an undeserved 32nd-place finish. It was repaired and fitted with a new body for the series June stop at Michigan, where it qualified 17th and finished a solid fifth. Its been idle since, but will return to the 2-mile Michigan oval for this weekends CARFAX 400.

This will be the second time this chassis will be raced this season, Logano piloted chassis #275 to a ninth-place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. #33-Clint Bowyer: Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis #315 from the RCR Sprint Cup Series stable. This is a brand new Chevy that will be put through its first paces this weekend.
#39-Ryan Newman: Chassis #39-596 has seen race action twice in 2010. The car, which was built over the offseason, previously raced at Las Vegas and Texas. Newman qualified the #39 third at Las Vegas, but was plagued by handling issues and long pit stops throughout the 267-lap event, both of which led to him being mired in traffic. The lost track position was too much to overcome, and Newman finished 18th. At Texas, Newman qualified 10th, but a tight-handling racecar caused him to lose several positions. Newman narrowly avoided a multi-car incident just 17 laps from the end of the race, which put him in position to make a solid run in the closing laps. He finished 11th. Since the Texas race, Chassis #39-596 has been given a new-style body. The car was wind-tunnel tested Aug. 4.
#42-Juan Pablo Montoya: Crew Chief Brian Pattie will bring chassis #1015 to Michigan this weekend. This chassis is the same Montoya used at the first 2010 NSCS event at Michigan where he finished 13th.
#43-A.J. Allmendinger: The #43 Richard Petty Motorsports team led by crew chief Mike Shiplett has prepared chassis #288 for this weekend’s event at Michigan. This car has been run on quite a few occasions this season. Most recently the #43 team utilized this car for the event at Chicago. It also saw action at the first Pocono event, Dover and at Bristol. Allmendinger finished inside the top 15 in three of those four events.
#48-Jimmie Johnson: Chassis #610 will be the primary for Saturday’s event. Johnson has driven that chassis once before – to a 25th-place finish in Chicago. Back up chassis #553 has collected three wins in four starts – the most recent coming at Auto Club Speedway in February.
