Richmond Notes and Facts:


  • ‘¢ Denny Hamlin won the Air Guard 400 at Richmond International Raceway. It was his 14th Cup series victory in his 177th start and was his sixth win in 2010. His last previous win came at Michigan on June 10, 10 races earlier.
    ‘¢ Hamlin will start the 2010 Chase in first position, based on his series-high six victories. (5,060 points). It’s the first time in his career that he has led the points standings.
    ‘¢ Hamlin scored his second win at Richmond in his 10th start there. He has won four of the past seven short-track races, all in the state of Virginia.
    ‘¢ Hamlin led six times for 251 laps, including the final 69. He led the most laps for the fourth time at Richmond. He has 1,150 laps led at Richmond in 10 starts.
    ‘¢ Joe Gibbs Racing posted its 86th Cup series win and ninth victory in 2010, a series high. JGR scored its seventh win at Richmond and fourth in a row at the Virginia track. JGR finished 1-2 for the ninth time overall and third time in 2010.
    ‘¢ Toyota posted its 10th win in 2010. Chevrolet has 13 victories; Dodge has two; and Ford has one.
    ‘¢ Kyle Busch (second) scored his fifth top-2 finish in 2010.
    ‘¢ Jimmie Johnson (third) had his 10th top-5 finish this season. He will start the Chase in second place, 10 points behind Hamlin.
    ‘¢ Joey Logano (fourth) posted his third top-5 this season.
    ‘¢ Marcos Ambrose (fifth) had his seventh career top-5 finish.
    ‘¢ Clint Bowyer (sixth) scored his 14th top-10 in 2010, and his third straight. He was the last driver to clinch a spot in the Chase.
    ‘¢ Ryan Newman (11th) finished the regular season 13th in points, missing the Chase by 98 points.
    ‘¢ Points leader Kevin Harvick finished ninth. He will start the Chase in the third spot. He had a 228-point lead before the reset.
    ‘¢ Greg Biffle (32nd) clinched the 11th Chase spot on Lap 47 when Jason Leffler dropped out of the race.
