NASCAR Nationwide Series teams saw an immediate fix to a problem for this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. What they haven’t seen is any attempted fix to an issue that has many of them wondering who will be the favorites for the 2011 title. As Nationwide Series teams switched Thursday to a new gear for the Dollar General 300 this weekend, they still don’t know if Sprint Cup Series regulars will be allowed to earn points next season and compete for the title. NASCAR officials met with the team owners Tuesday, but that was more of a marketing meeting. Officials did mention that they are looking at limiting teams to only 10 certified chassis per team (for each car number). “We still don’t have an answer to [the Cup driver situation],” NASCAR Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash said Thursday. “There are still a number of things we have to do.” While NASCAR still has some time before making that particular decision, it had to make a call quickly Wednesday after drivers complained about not having enough RPMs during an on-track test for the series’ new car. It is being used this weekend for the fourth and final time this year before its implementation on a full-time basis in 2011. The target RPM for the Nationwide Series is about 8400, and with drivers hitting only about 8000 on Wednesday, NASCAR announced a gear change to allow the drivers more throttle response.(Scene Daily)(10-14-2010)
