Jeff Burton will run the Caterpillar Global Mining scheme on the #31 RCR Chevy at Phoenix International Raceway. Virtually everything we use in our everyday lives requires mining, and today mining is more important than in any time in our history. World development and increased urbanization are driving the demand for the minerals necessary to sustain our growing population. As the demand for mined materials grows, so does the need for a broad range of equipment and solutions to support the mining industry. With its acquisition of Bucyrus International, Caterpillar now offers the broadest line of surface and underground mining equipment in the industry. Empire Southwest will be featured on the #31 Cat Mining Chevy’s deck lid for the Kobalt Tools 500 this weekend in Phoenix. This third-generation, family owned company was founded in 1950 and supplies construction and mining equipment to Arizona, Southeastern California and portions of Northern Mexico. UPDATE Jeff Burton and the #31 Richard Childress Racing team, the Nov. 13 race at Phoenix International Raceway will be “Mining Day at the Races,” with more than 200 Caterpillar Inc. mining customers and dealers in attendance. Designed to appear as though it’s mining gold, copper and silver, Burton’s #31 Chevy will be a tribute to the mining industry, carrying a special paint scheme to honor the new theme for the Caterpillar Global Mining organization: “Wherever There’s Mining.” With its recent acquisition of Bucyrus International, Inc., Caterpillar now offers more mining equipment than any other manufacturer in the world. Caterpillar customers are traveling from around the world to attend the race at Phoenix International Raceway, some from as far away as China, Latin America and Australia. For many it is their first time attending a NASCAR event. Many of the customers in attendance will be hosted by Cat dealers. The global Cat dealer network is a one-of-a-kind distribution and support system that is a key differentiator for Caterpillar.(RCR)(11-12-2011)
