After taking part in the 3rd annual Speedway Star competition this past April, a pair of New England singers were chosen to sing the national anthem for the Whelen Modified Tour and Sprint Cup Series races this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Twelve-year-old Emma Joanis of Windham, N.H., was deemed the overall winner by a list of judges that included NHMS executive vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens, former NASCAR pit reporter Dick Berggren, WMUR/ABC 9 news anchor Jennifer Vaughn and RCA Records director of northeast promotion Dan Nelson. Joanis will sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ during Sunday’s LENOX Industrial Tools 301, while Jillian Marie Cardarelli (Haverhill, Mass.) will sing the national anthem during the Town Fair Tire 100.(NHMS)(7-12-2012)
