For area stock car racer Ben Reynolds and his family, competing in a top level NASCAR series has been a long-time dream. Reynolds, 27, of Trumansburg [NY], will have that opportunity this weekend when he plans to make his NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series event with the #47 Diversified Consulting Solutions Chevrolet at Iowa Speedway in Newton. Why did they choose to debut on the Iowa oval, which is so far away? Reynolds said the 5/8-mile track compares well to tracks he’s run in the northeast, including the 1/2-mile Shangri-La II oval and the 5/8-mile Oswego Speedway. Reynolds hopes to do well enough to attract some sponsors to continue to race in the NASCAR series. “If we get a sponsor, we’ll try to go further and try to go to the next level with the Nationwide Series,” Ben Reynolds said. “I believe I have a shot at it and that I am good enough to hang with them.” For now, this race might be their only chance to make an impression to attract a sponsor to continue their season.(StarGazette.com)(7-12-2012)
