Gase meets man that received kidney from his monther: Cedar Rapids native #39-Joey Gase is known for his calm and collected demeanor. But the 19-year-old, who rarely shows emotion, couldn’t control himself at the sight of Jordan Shaw walking into a room during a visit to Iowa Speedway. Before driving in Saturday’s U.S. Cellular 250, Gase came face-to-face with Shaw, a recipient of a kidney donation from Gase’s late mother, Mary. Mary Gase passed away in April of 2011 from a brain aneurism. Shaw, a 25-year-old from Omaha, Neb., lost kidney function while battling cancer. Shaw met Gase and his younger sister Ashley in the media center at Iowa Speedway. All three shed tears in the meeting, including the normally calm Gase. ‘It’s been really emotional’ Gase said. ‘But good at the same time. I think it’s going to help us get through it and move on.â Shaw said it’s a meeting he’s been waiting for since he first wrote to the family in May of 2011. ‘To finally put a name and face with my kidney has brought a lot of, almost a relaxed state to me’ Shaw said. ‘It’s a weight off my shoulders.â Gase gave Shaw and his family a tour of his garage and showed him his Go Green Racing Ford, which was sponsored by the Iowa Donor Network. The two plan to stay in contact. ‘I don’t follow NASCAR that much’ Shaw said. ‘Obviously, I’m going to do that now.â(Des Moines Register)(8-5-2012)
