Jean Peters Joy passed away Monday, August 26, 2013 at home in Athol, Mass, age 89. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband, M. Verne Joy. Her life is celebrated by her four children, Michael K Joy [Mike Joy of Fox Sports] and his wife Gaye of Mooresville, NC; David S Joy and his wife Barbara of So. Windsor, Conn; Susan J (Joy) and her husband Bruce Winters of Athol; Caroline A (Joy) and her husband Rev. Bob McKenney of New Boston, NH; by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Jean Hull Peters was born to Horace Ambrose Peters and Erma Fahrson Peters in Columbus, OH, July 17, 1924. She was raised by her mother and aunts Teada and Edna in Los Angeles with her older brothers Richard and Horace Jr. Jean graduated Hollywood High School in 1942, and worked in personnel at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank where she met design engineer Verne Joy. They married Apr. 29, 1945, and lived in Los Angeles, Baltimore and Chicago before settling in Windsor, Conn. in 1952. They moved to West Hartford, CT in 1964. She enjoyed retirement living Phoenix and Daytona Beach before moving back to New England in 2005. She most enjoyed the latest exploits of her children and grandkids, and took great pride in instilling a high level of fairness, creativity and curiosity in each of them. Services will be private. To celebrate Jeans love of reading, memorials to the Athol Public Library Building Fund, 568 Main St, Athol, MA 01331, are welcomed.
