Pure Michigan announced the results of the Pure Michigan 400 honorary starter contest, naming Lowell Broesamle of Munith, Michigan as the 2014 Pure Michigan 400 honorary starter. Broesamle will wave the green flag at Michigan International Speedway on August 17. Broesamle was nominated by his daughter-in-law Jennifer Broesamle of Gregory, Mich. A long-time NASCAR fan, he was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Jennifer Broesamle noted in her entry that people would never know about the diagnosis by his positive outlook. In addition to racing, the Broesamle family enjoys state park camping trips, hunting in the beautiful landscape and fishing in the blue waters of Michigan. As honorary starter, Broesamle will receive a ride in the official pace car for the Pure Michigan 400. He will also attend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers’ meeting. The Pure Michigan 400 honorary starter contest asked fans to submit entries of 50 words or less explaining why they should be selected as honorary starter. Fans of Pure Michigan voted on their top entries. Broesamle’s entry received 1,061 votes and was chosen by Pure Michigan from the 10 entries with the most fan votes.(MIS)(8-9-2014)
