Multiple pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in a Martinsville Speedway parking lot after Sunday’s race, a track official confirmed. A track spokesperson told NBC Sports that it didn’t appear that there were any life-threatening injuries. The spokesperson stated that some pedestrians were evaluated and treated on scene and others were taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, Virginia. UPDATE: More than 20 people were injured when a vehicle hit them in a parking lot after Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway. According to the Virginia State Police, 22 people were injured, with the majority treated at the scene for minor injuries. There were no fatalities among those injured, whose ages ranged from 13 to 65. Of the 22 injured, 13 patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries; another nine patients were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Seven individuals were transported to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville, Virginia, with two taken to Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, North Carolina. The accident occurred about an hour after the race, when a 2005 Chevrolet SSR convertible attempted to pass a Jeep Patriot. The Chevrolet struck the Jeep and then struck several nearby pedestrians.
