- Qualifying rainout puts Martin Truex Jr. on Martinsville pole: Defending Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr,. would have preferred to earn his third straight official pole on Saturday, but with rain forcing cancellation of STP 500 qualifying at Martinsville Speedway, Truex is happy to take the result.[More](3-24-2018)
- Pit Stall Selections: The selections of pit stalls for the STP 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway have been made.
With the field downsized to 40 cars, two pit stalls (22,43) have been eliminated, are not in play and don’t count towards driving through more than three pit boxes.
One pit stall (30), Monster Energy Pit Box, has been eliminated, are not in play and don’t count towards driving through more than three pit boxes.
There are three vacant pit boxes (16, 21, 39) due to 38 cars entered and is in play and do count towards driving through more than three pit boxes
Pole winner #78-Truex chose pit stall 1, the first stall available [as do most pole sitters].
Outside pole winner #18-Busch. took pit stall 13.
#22-Logano, who starts 3rd, took the second stall.
The final pit stall was taken by #41-Busch who starts 11th.
