March 28 – Today in Jayski’s NASCAR history

March 28, 2010

  • Race at Martinsville postponed until Monday: the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway has been postponed to Monday due to rain on Sunday. The race is scheduled for Monday, March 29, 2010 at 12:00pm/et and will be televised on FOX and covered via radio on MRN.
The National Weather Service forecast for Monday: Showers likely, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. North wind between 3 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

  • Tire tests at Indy and Bristol: The tire Goodyear used at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be getting a second look – for races at Indianapolis as well as Bristol. Goodyear will test at both tracks prior to the next NASCAR events at the two facilities. The Indianapolis test will feature 12-13 teams and is scheduled for April 20-21, said Goodyear NASCAR program manager Greg Stucker. Drivers already confirmed for that test are #00-David Reutimann, #18-Kyle Busch and #82-Scott Speed (Toyota); #9-Kasey Kahne and #17-Matt Kenseth (Ford); #12-Brad Keselowski (Dodge); and #14-Tony Stewart, #29-Kevin Harvick, #42-Juan Pablo Montoya, #48-Jimmie Johnson and #78-Regan Smith (Chevy). Virtually every racing organization has been invited to send a representative to the test, compared with the typical four invitations that go out for other tire tests. Stucker said he didn’t anticipate a major change to the Indy tire. The tire that was used at Indy last year worked well enough that Goodyear thought that it would make a good combination for Bristol. Goodyear had the Truck Series and Nationwide Series use the tire last August and then opted for the Cup drivers to use it last weekend. But the tire did not perform as well as anticipated and too many teams had heat issues in their right fronts, Stucker said. Goodyear likely will go to Bristol in June and also will go to Atlanta as well. Stucker said he didn’t expect to have a test at Daytona.(SceneDaily)(3-28-2010)
  • #19 car running Petty Blue colors: Stanley and the #19 Ford Fusion of Elliott Sadler will feature a different look this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. The #19 Richard Petty Motorsports entry will be “Petty Blue” in honor of Richard Petty, who will be part of the inaugural class inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame this May. The seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion holds the record for the most wins at the .526-mile Virginia track with 15. He won his 101st career win in 1969 at Martinsville while driving a Ford.(RPM Facebook), see image of scheme on my #19 Team Schemes page.(3-28-2010) Share

  • County Fair Flavor Comes to May Races with Deep Fried Butter at CMS: County fair favorites with a twist, including deep fried butter, will make their motorsports debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway during NASCAR Sprint All-Star Week and Coca-Cola 600 Week this May. According to Chef James Pierson with Levy Restaurants, speed – and a little mixing – are the keys to making great deep-fried butter.
“You can’t just throw butter into a fryer or it will melt,” said Pierson. “We blend the butter with cream cheese and freeze it solid. Then we coat it in waffle batter and give it a quick fry. It’s served with a raspberry ‘catsup’ sauce.” Fried butter will be joined by two other deep-fried treats at the speedway during May race weeks: deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and deep fried grilled cheese. Both sandwiches are also coated in a waffle batter and fried. The PB&J comes with the raspberry “catsup” sauce, and the grilled cheese is served with a cold tomato soup for dunking. Tickets for all May races at Charlotte Motor Speedway can be purchased online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or by calling the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.(CMS)(3-28-2010)
