And in this corner …
Perhaps the last two drivers you would expect to be involved in a “boxing match” at the race track would be Jeff Burton and Jeff Gordon.
But scuffle they did following a run-in during the fall 2010 Cup race at Texas, and Burton calls the incident the “low point of my career.”
The two drivers were racing well back in the pack and didn’t appreciate each others’ tactics. Burton slammed into Gordon’s rear end and sent him into the wall.
Burton said he didn’t intend to do that and was concerned that Gordon may have been injured.
He also said that if anybody saw the mishap and thought Burton did it intentionally, well, there wouldn’t be an argument.
Burton said he’s not the kind of man to do that … and he’s not. It was another one of those racing deals, where two of NASCAR’s finest on-track representatives got caught up in the heat of competition.
