- On the Diamond Ridge sponsorship front Bechtel says things have slowed down. “They have settled down for a while. We (Bechtel and Jimmy Johnson) have two or three meetings this week but we’re not in a great hurry.” Remember we reported here last week that an inked sponsor deal was imminent for this bunch – but Bechtel says the target may have been shifted. “We’re looking toward Charlotte to make a sponsor announcement for the Winston Cup team and we also will announce the sponsor for five Winston Cup races for Elliott Sadler at Charlotte.” Hopefully these guys will be busy come Charlotte.(MRN Net – Marty)(4-16-98)
- UPDATE: Buckshot Jones may have decided on another track to run one of his five NASCAR Winston Cup races this year and of all places it’s Pocono. It will clearly have to be the June Pocono race. During the July Pocono weekend the NASCAR Busch Series races at Myrtle Beach on Saturday night. Whenever the date, Buckshot will share a Pocono test session with fellow Pontiac driver Ward Burton in a few weeks.(MRN Net – Marty), no idea which race attempt this will take place of in Jones plans.(4-16-98) – Buckshot Jones will attempt the June 21st Pocono race, see his five race schedule at The Official Buckshot Jones Site.(4-17-98)
