- Despite rumors that Dale Earnhardt will field a second team for Darrell Waltrip after Steve Park returns, Tyler Jet Motorsports says Waltrip will return to the team to drive the #17 chevy at the Brickyard 400.(WC Today Radio)(4-30-98)
- Talks with Robbie Gordon almost worked out but it appears that Robbie will not be in the #50 car this year. The only race that was still a possibility was the Winston Open and it appears as though Jack Sprague will drive that race for the Bud team. - Rusty Wallace, who currently leads the NASCAR Winston Cup point standings, has won the first-quarter balloting for Driver of the Year. Fifteen motorsports journalists gave him nine first place votes. His total of 97 points more than doubled those of the second-place drivers, NHRA’s Cory McClenathan and IRL’s Tony Stewart, both with 47 points. NASCAR drivers Mark Martin (26 points), Jeff Gordon (25) and Dale Earnhardt (19) split the other first place votes to round out the top six.(SpeedNet)(4-30-98)
- NASCAR officials are trying to set up an aerodynamic test at Daytona and Talladega for several top teams, to try to find ways to break up the huge pack of cars at restrictor-plate races. The first runs could come next week.(JournalNow)(4-30-98)
