  • Wallace and Petree: After #27-Kenny Wallace went out of the race with a broke motor, he was interviewed and said that if the #27 team didn’t go to Richmond, his former owner, Andy Petree(#’s 33 and 55) was goning to field a car for him. But the #27 team got Geico as a one race (hopefully longer) sponsor and was able to go(FX Race Coverage)(5-6-2001)
  • Grubb Out of the #37? According to a source close to Brewco Motorsports, Kevin Grubb has been released as the driver of the #37 Timber Wolf Chevy. Ricky Craven is rumored to be the driver of the car for next weekend’s BGN race at New Hampshire. Elliott Sadler and Ron Hornaday have been mentioned as possible long-term substitutes(NASCAR.com Buzz)(5-6-2001)
  • Rules Change: BGN Series director John Darby says that teams will receive a bulletin this week addressing a minor change for the rest of the season. The bulletin will detail spring parameters and bump stops. Each front wheel has its own spring coil suspension. A lot of teams have found that using a very soft spring allows the car’s front end to go lower to the ground and have less air resistance. Less air resistance means faster times. The bump stops halts the spring from dipping so low that the bottom of the car hits the track. Darby says the rule will be for the BGN series only at this time(Roanoke Times)(5-6-2001)
  • Musgrave on Pole at Gateway: #1-Ted Musgrave won his second Bud Pole Award this year. It was the fifth consecutive pole in five races for Dodge. Musgrave posted a lap of 129.971mph with #29-Terry Cook on the outside pole in a Ford, speed of 129.833mph. All 36 drivers who made an attempt got in the field. See Starting Lineup at: NASCAR.com. The race will start at 4:00pm/et and be televised on ESPN(5-6-2001)
