  • Jeff Gordon talks about Letarte’s contract:HAS THERE BEEN ANY PROGRESS ON (CREW CHIEF) STEVE LETARTE’S CONTRACT YET?“Oh, would you guys (the media) settle down! It was a week ago that Chad (Knaus) and Alan (Gustafson) signed and nobody was asking any questions about Stevie. And now all of a sudden it’s like they are signed so why isn’t Steve signed? He’s going to be signed. Everything is going really good. He and I are getting along and doing better than we ever have and his commitment to this team is showing every weekend just how good he is and that’s not going to change. So, if I was trying to get him signed he would have been signed already. It’s a process that goes on at Hendrick Motorsports and I’m not really involved with it.”(Chevy PR)(5-8-2010)
  • Ford looking for new racing engineer: Ford Racing is searching for a new manager of North American Racing Operations. Doug Hervey, who has been in the post since April 2007, will move on to the product development end of the Ford Motor Company. He will be under Brian Wolfe, former director of North American Motorsports. Hervey directed the engineering of all of Ford’s North American Racing initiatives with an emphasis on NASCAR and NHRA. He also oversaw Grand-AM and USAC. Ford Racing has been winless in NASCAR’s Cup Series since Jamie McMurray took the checkers at Talladega on Nov. 1, 2009. Its last Nationwide Series win came when Carl Edwards was victorious at Phoenix two weeks later. Ford pulled its manufacturing support from the Camping World Truck Series two years ago but still offers technical and contingency support.(Fox Sports)(5-8-2010)
  • North Carolina Governor Proclaims May Motorsports Month: With Race Weeks in Charlotte fast approaching, and thousands of fans from around the globe coming to North Carolina to vacation and enjoy great racing, North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue has proclaimed May Motorsports Month in the Tar Heel State. The proclamation was read at Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday during a May race kick-off event with Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, and four area mayors: Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, Concord Mayor Scott Padgett, Mooresville Mayor Chris Montgomery and Kannapolis Mayor Robert Misenheimer. Gov. Perdue’s proclamation recognizes the many motorsports events taking place in North Carolina in May, and in particular those at Charlotte Motor Speedway, including the N.C. Education Lottery 200 on May 21, the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 22, the TECH-NET Auto Service 300 Powered by CARQUEST Auto Parts on May 29, and the Coca-Cola 600 on May 30. Tickets for all May races at Charlotte Motor Speedway can be purchased online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or by calling the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS. Friends and family four-pack tickets start at just $39.75 per person for the Coca-Cola 600 and at $35 per person for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 22.(CMS PR)(5-8-2010)
  • Kahne’s shock fails inspection: #38-Kasey Kahne and his Braun Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series team faces possible penalties after the left-front shock absorber from Kahne’s #38 Toyota failed post-race inspection Friday night at Darlington Raceway. Kahne finished fourth in the Royal Purple 200. For the Nationwide Series, NASCAR compresses the shock in post-race inspection and then gives it 90 seconds to rebound to its proper position. Kahne’s shock apparently didn’t rebound in the required time. “We will take a front left shock back to the R&D center to look at it further and discuss it further in our Tuesday meeting,” NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said late Friday. “Any penalties that would be coming would be announced probably Tuesday afternoon.” The incident appears similar to what happened to Brad Keselowski after he won at Talladega two races ago. The right-front shock on Keselowski’s car didn’t rebound in the allotted time, and NASCAR fined Keselowski and the team 25 points and crew chief Paul Wolfe $10,000.(NNS Racing)(5-8-2010)
