Will Cronkrite was just a few years into his NASCAR career when he served as crew chief for Joe Frasson during the 1973 Winston 500 at Talladega.
Their race didn’t last long. Frasson was swept into an early multicar crash that left his car destroyed, and his arm mangled. Fueled by shock and/or adrenaline, Frasson limped his car back to the pits and ordered Cronkrite to replace its missing windshield so he could return to the race.
Cronkrite refused. This is his story.
