NASCAR making some changes to Sunday’s Cup race at Bristol

Following the learnings from Friday’s two practice sessions, and discussions with teams, drivers, the race track and Goodyear, NASCAR will adjust the stage length, add two competition cautions and increase the tire allotment count for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The below adjustments will give NASCAR two additional opportunities for track prep, shorten the length of time between track prep opportunities and give teams additional opportunities to change tires. These updates should help the racing considerably.

Stages

  • Stages will now end on Lap 100, Lap 200 and Lap 250.

Competition Cautions

  • There will be a competition caution on Laps 50 and Lap 150. Caution laps will not count once NASCAR sends the free pass car around.

Tires Allotment

  • Each team will receive an additional set of tires.
