The family of Kyle Busch released a statement Saturday regarding the cause of death of the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.
“The medical evaluation provided to the Busch Family concluded that severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming associated complications,” the family said in a statement.
Busch died Thursday at the age of 41.
Richard Childress Racing announced Friday that it would retire the No. 8 for the remainder of the 2026 season in Busch’s honor. The organization debuted the No. 33 Chevrolet driven by Austin Hill on Saturday morning at Charlotte.
Team throughout the garages are honoring Busch this weekend.
