Richard Childress Racing debuted its new No. 33 Chevrolet on Saturday morning at Charlotte Motor Speedway, less than 24 hours after the organization announced it would suspend the use of the No. 8 following the untimely death of Kyle Busch.
Austin Hill is driving the car this weekend. The No. 33 carries primary sponsorship from Cheddar’s and features a patriotic red, white and blue paint scheme.
The team worked to transition the car and branding from No. 8 to No. 33 before unloading in the Charlotte garage Saturday morning. NASCAR allowed Richard Childress Racing to enter the garage first as preparations began for the weekend.
Hill, a longtime RCR driver in the Xfinity Series, was originally scheduled to compete in only the Xfinity race weekend at Charlotte before being tabbed to drive the renumbered Cup entry. A driver beyond this weekend has not been announced.
