#9-Chase Elliott won the Go Bowling 235 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. The win is his 2nd win of the year and 8th career win. The race was the first for the Cup Series on the Daytona road course.
#11-Hamlin finished 2nd followed by #19-Truex, Jr., #48-Johnson, #17-Buescher, #14-Bowyer, #3-Grala (filling in for Austin Dillon and making his Cup debut), #24-Byron, #22-Logano, and #34-McDowell.
Elliott led 35 laps on the day. He took the lead for the final time with 12 laps remaining and overcame a late race caution to win by .2 second.
Pole sitter #4-Harvick never led a lap and finished 17th.
Stage 1 was won by #9-Elliott. Stage 2 was won by #11-Hamlin.
There was a red flag of just over 30 minutes due to lightning just after the start of the final stage.
There were 13 lead changes among 6 drivers and 4 cautions for 7 yellow flag laps.
