Denny Hamlin seizes 60th win, Championship 4 spot with Las Vegas victory: Denny Hamlin scored an emotional victory and claimed a significant career milestone with a dramatic win in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series’ South Point 400 Playoff race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Hamlin passed two cars in the final 10 laps, ultimately taking the lead from his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Chase Briscoe with four laps remaining then holding off the day’s most dominant driver Kyle Larson by 1.533-second to claim his series’ best sixth win of the season and 60th win of his career.[Read More]

#11-Denny Hamlin won the South Point 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The win is his sixth win of the year, second at Las Vegas and 60th career win.
#5-Kyle Larson finished 2nd followed by #20-Christopher Bell, #19-Chase Elliott, #19-Chase Briscoe, #45-Tyler Reddick, #22-Joey Logano, #48-Alex Bowman, #8-Kyle Busch, #60-Ryan Preece, and #6-Brad Keselowski
Hamlin started from the pole but just let nine laps.  Following a late caution, the team took four tires and he restarted in sixth with 14 laps to go. He moved through he field to take the lead with three laps to go and win by more than a second.
Playoff drivers having trouble: #12-Ryan Blaney cut a tire on lap 72 and hit the wall. He could not continue and finished 38th. With 30 laps remaining, #24-William Byron ran into the back of #10-Ty Dillon while Dillon was coming to pit road, tearing up the car. He finished 36th.
The fastest lap bonus a earned by #19-Chase Briscoe.
Stage 1 was won by #24-William Byron. Stage 2 was won by #5-Kyle Larson.
There were 21 lead changes among 11 drivers and 5 cautions for 32 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 137.131mph.

Checkered flag for Hamlin. He’s locked into the Championship race at Phoenix. Larson finishes second, then Bell, Briscoe and Reddick.
White flag for Hamlin. He leads Larson by 1.4 second.
Lap 265 – Hamlin to the lead by .4 second with 3 to go. Hamlin has 4 fresh tires.
Lap 264 – Hamlin now battling Briscoe for the lead.
Lap 263 – Larson and Hamlin continue to battle for second.  Briscoe’s lead holding at a half second.
Lap 262 – Larson back to second. He’s a half second behind Briscoe. Six laps to go.
Lap 261 – Seven laps to go. Briscoe leads Hamlin by .41 second. Larson along side Hamlin for second.
Lap 258 – Hamlin to third. 10 laps to go.
Lap 257 – Briscoe still leads, but Larson is up to second. Then Logano, Hamlin and Reddick.
Lap 255 -Hamlin moves to fifth on the restart.  The top 4 are unchanged.

Lap 247 – Under caution it’s Briscoe, Logano, Bowman, Larson, Keselowski.
Lap 245 – Green flag with 23 laps remaining. CAUTION right back out for Gibbs, SVG, Allmendinger, Hocevar in turn 1.
Lap 240 – Pit road is open. Leaders are in and off pit road it’s: Briscoe, Logano, and Keselowski with two tires, then Larson, SVG, Bowman,  Bell, Gibbs, Reddick, and Hamlin.
Lap 237 – CAUTION for an accident in turn 4 involving Byron Nemechek, and TDillon. Byron did not know Dillon was pitting and ran into him at full speed. Byron will be done for the day.
Lap 233  – 35 laps remaining. Larson takes the lead back after Byron gets loose. Playoff driver positions: Larson 1st, Byron 2nd, Bell 3rd, Briscoe 7th, Hamlin 8th, Logano 14th, Elliott 17th, Blaney 38th.
Lap 223 – 45 laps remaining. Byron leads Larson by 1 second, third place Bell is 1.5 second back. Fourth place Bowman is 3.7 seconds back.
Lap 221 – Keselowski pits and stops have cycled through. Byron now the leader.
Lap 219 – Hamlin pits from the lead. The crew has an issue with the jack and it’s a slower stop.
Lap 218 – Byron is ahead of Larson on track as pit stops continue.

Lap 151 – Fifteen laps remaining in stage 2. Larson leads Reddick (by more than a second now), Byron, Hamlin, Briscoe, Gibbs, Bell, Logano, SVG, and Bowman.
Lap 135 – Larson’s lead over Reddick is .2 second. Byron, in third, is 1 second back.
Lap 127 – Pit stops are complete and Larson is back in the lead over Reddick, Byron, Hamlin, and Gibbs. Elliott is currently 32nd, but in position for the free pass.
Lap 125 – Wallace pits from the lead. He is too fast on pit road.
Lap 120 – Larson pits from the lead. Wallace takes the lead.  Elliott penalized for an uncontrolled tire. He will have to do a pass through.
Lap 119 – Preece too fast on pit road as stops continue.
Lap 116 – Pit stops getting started with Bell, Buescher and TDillon coming in.
Lap 113 – Larson leads Byron by 1.8 second.  Green flag pit stops will be beginning again soon without a caution.
Lap 101 – The first 100 laps were completed in 1 hour and 4 minutes.  167 laps remaining.
Lap 98 – Larson continues to lead. Byron is back to second with Briscoe, Hamlin and Elliott following. The lowest running playoff driver on track is Bell in 11th.
Lap 88 – Larson to the lead.  Byron falls to fourth behind Briscoe and Hamlin.

Lap 83 – Pit road is open. Drivers that pitted under the last caution stay out. Everyone else pits.

Lap 76 – Everyone a lap more more down takes the wave around to get a lap back.
Lap 75 – Pit road is open. Leaders all come in. Off pit road: Byron, Larson, Briscoe, Elliott, Reddick, Hamlin.
Lap 74 – Blaney will have to be towed to the DVP area for the team to work  on the car. He will be done for the day.
Lap 72 – CAUTION for Blaney hard into the turn 4. He has heavy damage. Appears he had a tire go down.
Lap 71 – Byron now with a 3 second lead.
Lap 61 – With 20 laps left in stage 1, there are 26 cars on the lead lap.
Lap 56 – Bryon has a 1.5 second lead over Reddick. 25 laps left in stage 1.
Lap 42 – Pit stops have cycled through, it’s now Byron, Reddick, Larson, Briscoe, Hamlin, Elliott, Bell, Wallace, Bowman, and Logano in the top 10.
Lap 39 – With Briscoe’s slow stop he is now running behind Byron, Reddick, and Larson of those that have pitted.
Lap 37 – Hocevar currently the leader.  He has not pitted. Briscoe had a slow stop on the left rear.
Lap 35 – Pit road really busy now, including Briscoe.
Lap 33 – Some green flag pit stops beginning. Larson, Logano, Chastain and Reddick among them.
Lap 29 – Byron has taken second from Hamlin.
Lap 26 – Briscoe has pulled out to a 3 second lead over Hamlin. Byron is 3.5 seconds back. Legge is the only driver down a lap so far.
Lap 11 – With 10 laps complete, it’s Briscoe, Hamlin, Elliott, Byron and Bell in the top 5. The lowest playoff driver is Blaney in 13th.
