“Two-time NASCAR points champion Tim Flock, hospitalized Sunday in Charlotte after complaining of chest pains, has been diagnosed with cancer. Flock, who won the 1952 and 1955 championships and won 40 races in his colorful career, is scheduled to have more diagnostic procedures performed today at University Hospital in Charlotte. His son, Don, said Tuesday that cancer has been found in his father’s lungs and throat and is also suspected to be affecting Tim Flock’s liver. Tim Flock, 73, had already been active in anniversary events. He attended the annual Winston Cup Preview in Winston-Salem on Jan. 10, signing autographs along with Ned Jarrett and Buddy Baker.”(Charlotte Observer)(1-28-98)
