Butch Gilliland will take his #38 Ralphs/Food 4 Less/Coca-Cola sponsored Ford Taurus to the Sears Point Cup event, in hopes of qualifying for his first Winston Cup race of the season. Earlier in the season the team planned to qualify for the Fontana Cup race, but encountered bad luck when rain cancelled qualifying and the starting grid was set by points. Gilliland has won 2 of the last 3 Winston West races at the track, sat on the pole twice and was leading the last race until he was knocked out by a competitor with only 4 laps remaining in the race, and was unable to return due to the damage to his car. Gilliland also ran the Cup race last year for injured driver Lake Speed in the Melling owned #9 Cartoon Network car( www.butchgilliland.com )
