America’s Team Motorsports Inc. is coming to Winston Cup. The team is combining with Mark Smith and TriStar Motorsports and plans to run five Cup events this season. FansTeam.com, an Internet-based fan club created by the America’s Team group, is sponsoring the car. Darrell Lanigan is expected to compete for the team in the second races at Michigan, Richmond, Charlotte, Talladega and Rockingham. A show car for the team is scheduled to be at Southside Speedway on Saturday night(Times-Dispatch)(5-17-2000) UPDATE? have heard nothing of this fans sponsored team in a while, they are not on the entry list at Michigan. The Fans Team site lists Michigan on the ‘Team’ schedule but also lists it is looking for a driver, no mention of Lanigan or Stanton Barrett, who attempted to make the Daytona 500 for the team before it was known as Fans Team. Last Press Release noted on the site was in March(8-16-2000)
