What a shocking and welcome upset win at Atlanta. #29-Kevin Harvick, a rookie in his third Winston Cup race, who took over for the late Dale Earnhardt in the Richard Childress Racing GM Goodwrench Chevy (changed to #29 from #3), WON the Cracker Barrel 500 by .006 seconds over #24-Jeff Gordon. Harvick’s margin of victory was .006 of a second — a few inches. One year ago, Earnhardt had won by .010 of a second over Bobby Labonte. The car was the same car that Dale Earnhardt used at the fall Atlanta race(not won with in the spring as reported). Harvick becomes the 159th driver to win in the history of the Winston Cup series. Harvick is 11th in points after four races despite getting no driver points for the first race. All three Hendrick drivers finished in the top five, #24-Gordon was 2nd, #25-Nadeau was 3rd and #5-Terry Labonte was 5th. Gordon takes over the Winston Cup Points lead by 37 over #88-Jarrett, third is #10-Johnny Benson and former leader #40-Marlin falls to 4th after blowing an engine.
