NASCAR School UPDATE:

NASCAR School UPDATE: A Phoenix-based auto mechanics school plans to build a $12 million NASCAR-affiliated training center in Mooresville(NC) to tutor students on jobs in the racing industry. Universal Technical Institute Inc. has an agreement to buy 19 acres in Talbert Pointe Business Park for the school, which will house 135 instructors and other employees and train as many as 1,800 students per year. The 145,000-square-foot facility, to be called the NASCAR Technical Institute, will offer UTI’s training for auto mechanics along with 18 weeks of instruction specific to the racing industry. Tuition in UTI programs isn’t inexpensive. Students pay $18,600 for a 54-week car-repair course in Houston. NASCAR Technical Institute prices haven’t been set, says Dennis Hendrix, who will be director of the local school. By comparison, in-state students pay $1,760 for a two-year motorsports program at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Out-of-state students pay $10,864.
