Texas Repaving Almost Done:

Texas Repaving Almost Done: Eddie Gossage, Texas Motor Speedway’s executive vice president and general manager, said the complete repaving project at TMS by Sunmount Construction of Justin should be completed Tuesday. Separate tire tests for the CTS and IRL, both of which are scheduled to compete at TMS in mid-September, are scheduled for the end of August. Gossage said TMS workers also will attempt to create a second groove, above the bottom line, with a trailer-like device that will grind soft-compound rubber into the new surface. In addition, all racing schools at the facility will conduct their lapping sessions in the second groove once the paving is completed. “Before the Winston Cup guys get here [in March], the track will be six to eight months old,” Gossage said. “It’ll have thousands of miles on it. So, it’ll be a long way from being a virgin racetrack.”(Star Telegram)(8-9-2001)
