Nadeau in the #10 longer? UPDATE thru Dover: Jerry Nadeau’s role as the substitute for the injured Johnny Benson in MBV Motorsports’ #10 Valvoline Pontiac may be extended beyond Saturday’s running of the Winston Open at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Nadeau, who left Hendrick Motorsports’ #25 Chevy earlier this month, was named as Benson’s sub for the Open, but Benson is saying his recovery from a rib cracked in a BGN race at Richmond may take awhile. “The Open is a race I wanted to race because we won it last year, but getting well is my main goal right now…. I don’t know when I will return. Everybody keeps telling me it is better to take my time and get healed instead of rushing back. I’m pretty much going to listen to what the doctors say and what my body says.”(Winston Cup Scene daily newsletter)(5-16-2002) UPDATE: Johnny Benson, who suffered a broken rib and two cracked ribs in an accident during the BGN race at Richmond, said Friday he will likely remain out of his #10 MBV Motorsports ride at least until the June 9 race at Pocono. Jerry Nadeau, who left his Hendrick Motorsports team last week, is subbing for Benson in the #10 Valvoline Pontiac until Benson’ return. “The type of break that I have, the doctors say can take seven or eight weeks to heal, but being a race car driver, I hope to be back before then,” Benson said. “Ill sit out Charlotte and with Dover being Dover, they dont want me to hit anything. We figure Pocono may be a good place to try to come back. Ive cracked ribs before and they hurt, but until you break one you dont know how much that hurts.”(ThatsRacin.com)(5-17-2002)
