Hendrick Motorsports and team owner Ricky Hendrick officially announced on Monday, December 9th the signing of 19 year-old Brian Vickers to drive the #5 GMAC Chevrolet in the BGN for 2003. The future of Vickers’ former team – BLV Motorsports, is unclear at this time. BLV Motorsports [#40 Dodge] had been aggressively pursuing sponsorship leads for the 2003 season, but had not signed any marketing partners to this point and was still ascertaining their options when the opportunity with Hendrick Motorsports presented itself. Vickers’ team had carried a great deal of momentum through the last part of the season and despite several layoffs in recent weeks, was retaining a core group of personnel led by crew chief Bryant Frazier in anticipation of competing in the Busch Series in 2003.
