Rumors are that Boris Said will be in the #01 US Army Pontiac at Infineon Raceway, since he’s known as a road racing specialist and has worked with Ryan Pemberton in years past [with Jasper Motorsports]. Mike Wallace is currently in the car.( Winston Salem Journal )(6-2-2003) UPDATE 2: Road course specialist Boris Said has been named by MB2 Motorsports to drive the #01 U.S. Army Pontiac in the June 22 NASCAR Winston Cup race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. Said, 40, will be substituting for Jerry Nadeau, who is recovering from injuries sustained in a May 2 accident at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. Mike Wallace, who has been the team’s substitute driver, will continue in the same role at the oval races. One of the leading national and international sports car drivers, Said has competed in seven career Winston Cup races. Six of his seven starts have come at NASCAR’s two road courses — Infineon Raceway (2000, 2001, 2002) and Watkins Glen (1999, 2001, 2002). His other start was at Homestead Miami Speedway in 1999. Said, of Carlsbad, Calif., has enjoyed success at Infineon Raceway. As a NASCAR driver, he finished 11th in the 2001 Winston Cup race and won the 1998 Craftsman Truck event. As a sports car racer in the American Le Mans Series, he won at Infineon in 2000 and was runner-up in 2001.
