Busch Series regular Johnny Sauter is a candidate. McClure confirmed conversations with John Andretti, fired recently at Petty Enterprises, but the owner seemed to nix the Indianapolis native as a candidate by saying he doesn’t want a “recycled driver.” “Whoever we get is going to have to have the ability and desire to drive my car,” McClure said. “I don’t want to hire anybody who’s already got a bank of excuses.” Andretti did not attend Sunday’s race.( Indianapolis Star )(6-23-2003)
