hearing Hendrick Motorsports/Rick Hendrick may be purchasing the #01-US Army MB2 team and half of the #10 MBV Valvoline team. Joe Nemechek drives the #01 Pontiac and Scott Riggs will drive the #10 Valvoline Pontiac in 2004. Johnny Benson is the current driver.(10-24-2003) UPDATE: Hendrick Motorsports [HMS] officials on Friday denied an Internet report that it was considering buying into MB2/MBV Motorsports which currently fields Pontiacs for Winston Cup drivers Joe Nemechek and Johnny Benson. Hendrick spokesman Jesse Essex said HMS is not interested in buying any or all of the MB2/MBV teams. The interest in Hendrick’s relationship with MB2/MBV has been fueled by several arrangements recently between the two organizations, including the move of Hendrick’s former driver, Nemechek, to MB2’s #01 team. Hendrick also had a tentative arrangement to place its Busch driver, Brian Vickers, in MB2’s #01 the final four races of this season. That deal was nullified when Nemechek left for the #01, and Vickers moved to HMS’ #25, which he will run full time in 2004. Also, HMS currently provides all the engines for the MB2 and MBV teams.( ThatsRacin.com )(10-24-2003)
